DP World Opens Egypt’s First Integrated Logistics Hub at Sokhna

DP World has inaugurated Egypt’s first fully integrated Logistics Distribution Centre (LDC) at the Sokhna Logistics Park, aiming to streamline supply chains and position the country as a primary regional trade hub. Located within the Suez Canal Economic Zone adjacent to Sokhna Port, the new facility allows international corporations to maintain inventory ownership at a single distribution node while serving local, regional, and global markets.

The opening ceremony was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and senior government officials. The event coincided with the initial official visit to Egypt by Essa Kazim since his recent appointment as Chairman of DP World. During the launch, DP World finalized service agreements with its first three multinational clients.

Among the initial tenants is a Kenya-based tea exporter handling approximately 1,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually, which will use the hub to distribute across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Additionally, a global consumer goods distributor will utilize a dedicated temperature-controlled facility to supply eight markets across Saudi Arabia, the Levant, and the Horn of Africa. The third initial client is a German digital infrastructure and fibre-optic cable manufacturer expanding its re-export operations into North Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations.

The facility offers end-to-end supply chain management, including freight forwarding, port services, customs facilitation, and value-added packaging. By positioning inventory closer to end markets, the hub is designed to lower lead times and improve supply chain resilience.

"Egypt has been one of our most important investment destinations in the region," said Chairman Essa Kazim, noting that the center connects ports and logistics to enhance the competitiveness of the domestic economy. Mohammad Shihab, Executive Vice President for Egypt and the Levant at DP World, added that the integrated model strengthens Egypt's position as a trade gateway linking Asia, Africa, and Europe.

To date, DP World has invested more than $1.4 billion in Egyptian logistics infrastructure. This portfolio includes the expansion of Sokhna Port, the development of the Sokhna Logistics Park, and an upcoming cold chain facility currently under construction.
