Emirati Students Secure Gold at International Innovation Olympiad
Four students from Dubai Schools - Al Khawaneej won the gold medal at the International Greenwich Olympiad in London, prompting an official briefing and commendation from the emirate’s leadership.
The competition, which took place from June 14 to June 20, 2026, gathered student competitors representing more than 80 countries to present scientific, technological, and creative projects focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The winning Emirati delegation - comprised of Ali Al Jarwan, Khalifa Al Marzouqi, Omar Al Balushi, and Saeed Abu Al Shawareb - was recognized for developing an agricultural prototype titled the "Smart Irrigation Train." The automated system integrates Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, solar power, and data-driven agricultural technology to optimize water resource management across remote farming regions.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, met with the students to review the design following their return.
"Investing in young national talent is a strategic priority as we prepare future generations to lead in a rapidly changing world," Sheikh Hamdan said. He emphasized that building specialized technical capabilities remains a core component of the emirate's broader economic development and educational strategies.
Organized annually by the North London Grammar School, the Olympiad serves as a global exhibition for secondary-level research across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
